Riding in the Cold

So, my quest continues, despite the freezing temperatures that came in so suddenly. I left for Las Vegas on November 6th, and the current local temerature was around 35-40 degrees. The day after I left, I heard that it had snowed. That was of very little concern to me as I was enjoying temperatures in the high 60s and mid to high 70s. I didn't really think about the temps back home here until the day I was set to leave Las Vegas. The warmest thing I had with me was a hoodie sweatshirt. BOy was it chilly as I walked off the plane in Anchorage at 1 AM on Saturday morning.

But it was nothing compared to what I got to enjoy today. In my never ending quest to continue riding my bike to work, I had the joy today of pedaling to work in about 2 degree weather. By lunchtime when I rode home for lunch, it was -4. And back up to zero when I came home this evening. Chilly indeed!!! But I will persist. It is just one small part of my marathon training program. Which I am down to 214 training days. Tonight I officially begin a more formal program. 3 days of running and 2 days of cross training for the next 11 weeks. That will take me to the end of January, at which time I will begin a structured, 20 week program.

Up tonight -- 30 minutes of moderate running. I am also going to start doing the correct 5 minute warmup and cooldown periods on each end, and conclude with some proper stretching.

Now, off to the treadmill!!

P.S. -- Has anyone seen my hat?
